Chair Report
The IEEE Ottawa Section 2007 Annual General Meeting was held at the
Conference Centre, Hampton Inn on November 28, 2007. Dr. Wahab Almuhtadi, chair
of the IEEE-Ottawa Section, started the meeting by a report on the
activities and achievements in 2007.
Treasurer's report and budget for 2008
Dr. Sreeraman Rajan, treasurer of the IEEE-Ottawa section reported the
latest balance sheet for the fiscal year 2007. He has also presented
the budget for 2008. The new budget was adopted at the AGM.
IEEE Ottawa Executives in 2008
During the AGM 2007, the following were elected as the new IEEE Ottawa
Section executives for the year 2008:

Acceptance Speech of the new Chair of 2008
Following the election of the new executives, Dr. Wahab Almuhtadi gave his acceptance speech as the new Chair of the IEEE Ottawa Section in 2008. The speech which included the planned activities for 2008:
- Encouraging and helping the Section chapters and affinities groups to
organize local, national and international conferences to be held in
the National Capital/City of Ottawa. Doing this, it will:
- bring many presenters and attendees from around the world for
cross pollination
- benefit the city's economic development
- increase the knowledge and keep engineering community updated
with industry involvement.
- Continuous promotion of members to Senior and Fellow membership levels.
- Applying for the IEEE Regional Activities Board awards for the past
Section activities.
- Increase the number of technical and educational seminars and workshops.
- Promote and support the new formed affinity group "Life Member".
- Increase the interaction with other IEEE sections.
- Further develop relations with the engineering societies, organizations,
industry, academia, and government institutions.
- Invite all members of the IEEE Ottawa Section to volunteers and
provide suggestions and feedback and to increase the value of their
membership as well as the value of the Section activities
Keynote Speech
The AGM 2007 was continued by the Keynote Speech by Mr. Paul Bush, VP Broadcasting & Corporate Development at Telesat. The topic of the speech was The Evolution and Trends of Satellite Communications.
Following the keynote speech, awards were presented to various individuals and organizations (see below). The AGM 2007 was ended with Wahab's closing remarks, calling support for the new executives and wishing everyone greater success and bigger progress for the new year.
