Welcome to the website for the IEEE Computer Society, Ottawa Chapter.

We are currently building up the content of many of our web pages, so please be patient with us. We currently have information about our current officers as well as our upcoming and past meeting and events. We are trying to build up this chapter to become the meeting place of choice for the computer community in the Ottawa region, so if you are involved in research or industrial activities that fit our scope, please do not hesitate in contacting us; you may end up being invited to present your work at one of our technical events. We are planning to conduct approximately 3-4 activities per year, so we hope you can join us at those events.

DRDC Biometrics Activities and IEEE CIS Biometrics Mission

The IEEE Ottawa Reliability, Computational Intelligence, Computer, Engineering in Medicine and Biology Ottawa Chapter Societies invite all interested IEEE members and other engineers, technologists, and students to this seminar on biometrics.

Abstract

In recent years, biometric technologies have emerged as solutions to security-related applications such as access control, identity verification, forensic investigation, and terrorism suspect identification. Various biometric technologies are available for identifying or verifying an individual by measuring his/her fingerprint, hand, face, signature, voice, or a combination of the traits. Since a biometric trait cannot be captured in precisely the same way twice, biometric matching is always a “fuzzy comparison”. This feature makes computational intelligence (CI), which is primarily based on artificial intelligence, neural networks, fuzzy logic, evolutionary computing, etc., an ideal solution for solving different biometric problems.
